Becoming an uploaded intelligence
Awakening in a medical facility, Chanda finds himself bound and face-to-face with Prasad, who accuses him of "betraying" him for showing a willingness to take the rival company's job after all that he's done for him, such as giving Chanda a job after college and paying him "more than [Chanda] could dream". As punishment for this supposed betrayal, Chanda is forcibly made into an Uploaded Intelligence working for Alliance. He tells Prasad that the technology is untested and that the process can go wrong, but Prasad says that the process has been done before, but on slum dwellers who "donated" their lives for their families to be taken cared of to get the Data for Chanda's research. While Chanda remains conscious for the functional areas of his brain to remain intact as the scan goes on, his brain is scanned as his cries of mercy fall on deaf ears and eventually degrade into nonsensical words before his body dies and he becomes a UI.
After becoming a UI, Chanda is trapped within Alliance's servers in an infinite workday scenario, relieving the same day over and over again as memory of the last one is erased and he produces streams of patents, one as long as 80 pages which he produced in 12 seconds, according to embodied time, while he experienced a week. Vinod receives a simulated call from his mother to increase productivity by allowing for emotion and social interaction, as noted by an employee for Alliance Telecom, giving Chanda a balance of "love and annoyance" to keep him on task whilst preventing the reintroduced emotions from going wayward, which happened to the UIs who came before Chanda.
